Explore the Richness of African Mythology

Your ultimate destination for African myths and legends from every corner of the continent.

Welcome to the heart of African Mythological Reclamation - at the crossroads of Discovery and Dignity for Africa's Lost Legacies.

At the heart of reclamation and reinstitution, we are creating this repository of African histomythological stories; welcome to African Mythology.com, a site dedicated to preserving, exploring, and expanding the mythologies of Africa.

This site will be more than an encyclopedia—it is a growing repository of legends, deities, spirits, and civilizations, drawing together the fragmented pieces of Africa’s vast mythological heritage into one accessible, structured resource. By delivering our full vision with the aid of our other sites (see below), we are working to make African Mythology an immersive, entertaining, and highly educational experience.

African mythology has been overshadowed, under-documented, or scattered across disconnected sources for too long. Yet, across the continent, myths have shaped entire civilizations, guided spiritual practices, and influenced cultures beyond Africa’s shores. From the supreme gods of the Yoruba, the tricksters of the Akan, the river spirits of the Kongo, the celestial deities of the Dogon, to the warrior spirits of the Zulu, these stories are not relics of the past. They are alive, still whispering their truths in the traditions, rituals, and even the fantasy worlds being built today.

A Growing Legacy

This site is a work in progress, with content expanding over time to build the most comprehensive African mythology resource available.

While the website takes a regional approach, those looking for more country-specific breakdowns can find deeper dives in the books linked throughout the site, such as The Guardians of Ghana, The Spirit of Senegal, The Courage of Cameroon, and The Book of Bakongo, and information will be shared with these books once they are ready for publication. The Book of Bakongo, the first of these is due for publication circa July 2025.

This is the foundation of a movement—one that ensures Africa’s mythological traditions are not only remembered but restored, studied, and actively engaged with for generations to come, and it will take years to get all the information that is pertinent onto the site but it is critical, necessary and overdue, so it is getting done one way or another.
